A dramatic incident unfolded at a festival on the mid-north coast of New South Wales as a small passenger plane collided with a ferris wheel.

The unsettling incident led to the rescue of two children who had been atop the ferris wheel, but it left two individuals trapped within the plane, which was left dangling precariously from the summit of the ride.

According to reports from the police, the plane crash transpired shortly after 10:00 am (AEST) on the same day at the Old Bar Festival held in Taree.

The situation became more complex as the damaged plane began to leak aviation fuel. Emergency response teams swiftly sprang into action, using foam to mitigate the potential hazards associated with the fuel leak. There were also concerns that the ferris wheel could tip over due to the impact.

The flight had taken off from a grass airstrip and encountered difficulty gaining sufficient altitude to clear the newly installed ferris wheel positioned at the southern end of the strip, specially arranged for the local festival.

Eyewitnesses shared their accounts of the harrowing incident. Lorraine, who was observing the plane's takeoff from a viewing platform, recounted her perspective. She described how the aircraft had landed earlier and then attempted takeoff, passing over the ferris wheel. However, it became apparent that the plane was flying at a dangerously low altitude, resulting in a collision. Only a support bar of the ferris wheel prevented further catastrophe by wedging itself between the aircraft's wing struts.

Rimian Perkins, also present at the scene, provided insights into the rescue efforts. He mentioned the use of a large industrial crane to secure the ferris wheel and reach the trapped individuals. Remarkably, the two children remained composed while awaiting their rescue. Fortunately, initial reports suggested that the individuals within the plane were in relatively stable condition.

Perkins noted that the plane appeared to have made contact with the ferris wheel during its takeoff attempt, resulting in a notable impact. Despite the bizarre nature of the collision, the ferris wheel demonstrated unexpected resilience, likely due to the low speed at which the collision occurred.
