Crew Killed After Navy Training Plane Crashes in Alabama Neighbourhood

Tragedy struck on a fateful Friday when a U.S. Navy training plane, originating from Florida, met with a catastrophic crash in a residential neighborhood near the Gulf Coast of Alabama. This devastating incident resulted in the loss of both individuals aboard the T-6B Texan II training plane, as confirmed by Zach Harrell, a spokesperson for Commander, Naval Air Forces. However, the identities of the victims were not immediately disclosed. Miraculously, no injuries were reported among the residents on the ground.

The crash site, located southeast of Mobile, was in close proximity to the city of Foley and the town of Magnolia Springs. Foley's Fire Chief, Joey Darby, described the immediate aftermath as responders were met with a "large volume of fire," with a home and several vehicles engulfed in flames. Firefighters swiftly and effectively contained the blaze, preventing its spread, as reported by local news outlets. Importantly, no firefighters sustained injuries during the operation.

The ill-fated training plane had taken off from Naval Air Station Whiting Field, situated approximately 30 miles northeast of Pensacola, Florida, according to Navy spokeswoman Julie Ziegenhorn.

In response to the incident, both the U.S. Department of Defense and the Navy took charge of the investigation, as announced by the Baldwin County sheriff's office via Twitter.

Well, I was sad before. I hate it when service people die, working for us. I hate it even worse when they are women. There are few enough of them swimming upstream in the military river, as it is.

You beat me to it. Was going to say exactly the same thing. It shouldn't hurt more because they are women, but it sure does. Training will always be a hazardous environment. These two pilots are just as dead as if they were shot down. The loss is the same. I don't know if their families get to be gold star families, but they should. They will carry this grief for the rest of their lives.

I think that both families will qualify as "Gold Star" families. I think if you die in service, it qualifies. It doesn't matter if it is training or combat. (The Sullivan Brothers were just riding on a ship when it went down, and they qualified) (Maybe some military guys can provide some input here?)
