Downed Russian Pilot Detonated Grenade After Being Shot Down
Russian news outlets have honored a pilot who lost his life in Syria, celebrating him as a hero for his actions following the downing of his aircraft. The pilot, Roman Filipov, reportedly activated a grenade to prevent capture by jihadists after they shot down his plane. Filipov's final words were recorded as, "Here's for the guys." He was flying a Sukhoi-25 ground-attack jet which was targeted over Idlib province, a region under rebel control. Although he survived the initial attack and managed to eject, Filipov ultimately perished in a subsequent ground engagement. The attack on his aircraft was claimed by the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham group, previously affiliated with al-Qaeda. They alleged responsibility for shooting down the plane, possibly with a heat-seeking missile like a 'US Stinger or Soviet Strela,' a detail currently under investigation by Moscow. Russian defense ministry's TV Zvezda reported that Filipov was awarded the Hero of Russia medal, also known as the Gold Star, posthumously. The station revealed that Filipov had informed his commanders about the missile strike before ejecting from the jet. Hayat Tahrir al-Sham released a statement on social media, claiming they used a shoulder-launched missile to down the plane. According to the group, the aircraft was conducting a raid over Saraqeb city at the time.    |

A short piece of footage shot by gleeful proxy servants after they shot down his jet on behalf of the Empire on the 3rd of February 2018. The Russian pilot exploded himself with a hand grenade rather than being captured to, no doubt, later be abused in the customary hail of bearded shoutiness.
