Peruvian Airlines Flight 112 Experiences Collapse of Landing Gear

Peruvian Airlines Flight 112, which occurred on March 28, 2017, involved an aircraft with the registration number OB-2036-P. This flight was a domestic scheduled passenger service from Lima to Jauja in Peru. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-3M8, experienced a collapse of its landing gear after a hard landing caused by mechanical failure at Francisco Carle Airport in Jauja.

Upon landing at 16:40 local time, passengers reported feeling "two strong impacts." The collapse of all three landing gear legs led to the aircraft sliding along the runway, veering off to the right, and striking the airport's perimeter fence. This resulted in a fire that completely destroyed the aircraft. Remarkably, there were no fatalities, but 39 of the 150 people on board were injured, including two with broken bones and three with concussions.

Investigations into the accident were conducted by the Commission for the Investigation of Aviation Accidents and the Criminal Prosecutor's Office in Jauja. The final report, released in November 2020 by the Commission for the Investigation of Aviation Accidents, identified the cause of the accident as a mechanical failure in the shimmy damper systems of both main landing gear struts. This failure prevented the dampening of vibrations and lateral oscillations of the wheels, leading to the gear collapse.

The investigation also noted contributing factors, including potentially incorrect or missing data about the measurements of mechanical components in the shimmy damper kinematic system in the Aircraft Maintenance Manuals provided to Peruvian Airlines.

Re: Peruvian Airlines Flight 112 Experiences Collapse of Landing Gear

Jauja Airport's Elevation is 11,034 feet/3363 meters MSL, the airport offers runway 13/31 of 2810 meters/9220 feet length.

29 occupants were taken to the Hospital but no one got seriously wounded which is a small miracle.

Re: Peruvian Airlines Flight 112 Experiences Collapse of Landing Gear

I have taken many internal flights in Peru and it was fucking scary.

A lot of airports are at high elevation and getting up and down over mountains means the take off speeds are far quicker and the movements felt more.

You can really feel the pilot going for it which is not ideal.
