Re: Japan Airlines and Japan Coast Guard Plane Crash and Burn at Haneda Airport

A dangerous operation for sure. As a commercial pilot myself I have never been told to use a high speed exit to enter a runway.
yep, but the small plane was coastal guard, which I consider military.
I guess it had landed there for a fuel or personnel pick up, and the pilots were not very used to this buzzy public air field.
I heard Juan Brown say he could vaguely understand "hold on at c5", but I could not.

Hurry Hurry can work on a military base, but not at that base with sluggish planes around.
I also watched Browine's video and I think the new Jeppesen 10-9 chart shows C-5 as a 90 degree intersect to the runway, contrary to what was uploaded.

Re: Japan Airlines and Japan Coast Guard Plane Crash and Burn at Haneda Airport

I heard additional reports that said the carbon-graphite fuselage skin was VERY resistant to fire, and that is how the passengers all managed to get off. By the time the flames were coming through the windows of the fuselage in the videos, all the passengers were already off the aircraft, across the runway and off in a grassy area. This is one of the first airliners to use a carbon-graphite main fuselage structure, and the people reported they were very impressed with how little damage there was, and how slowly the fire moved because of the flame and heat resistance of the fuselage skin.
They said the aircraft crew also did a perfect job keeping control and getting the passengers off. (Flight attendants are supposed to check through a small viewport for fire in the area of that door, and if they see any, to NOT OPEN THE DOOR, and move their passengers to the next available door that can be safely opened for evacuation. I understand they only opened 3 of the main doors for the entire evacuation, the rest stayed closed.)

The aircraft did eventually burn out completely, and collapsed in a heap on the runway.

Good find. I pulled out my iPad and Foreflight confirmes that the taxiways have been renumbered. C5 is where you show it.

Re: Japan Airlines and Japan Coast Guard Plane Crash and Burn at Haneda Airport

Interesting find, but
the small stop lights build in the runway, are red ,
and only turn green when you got cleared by tower.

now it is also possible that they were not working cos of the earthquake

I read somewhere that the runway status lights were functioning.
The earthquake was a different part of the country so I don't think it affects that Gloria

NOTAM Q0032/24 for the Fukuoka FIR dated 04938Z and still current:

Code:
Q0032/24 NOTAMR Q0031/24
Q) RJJJ/QCEAS/I/B/E/000/999/3310N14118E999

E) NOTO AIR-RTE-SURVEILLANCE RADAR-U/S DUE TO EARTHQUAKE
The NOTAM covers all of Japan (radius 999 miles). Looks to me like it refers to Secondary Surveillance Radar (SSR).

There's no indication that radar issues are related to the Haneda accident.
