Helicopter Hits Power Lines During a Rescue Operation in Schoelcher, Martinique

A dramatic incident occurred on April 3, 2019, involving an Airbus Helicopter H145, callsign Dragon 972, operated by the French government's civil-protection branch. The helicopter collided with three high-voltage power lines near the shoreline of Schoelcher, Martinique, during a rescue operation.

The H145 was in the process of rescuing a person from the sea, having winched them up from a boat approximately 150 meters offshore. During the operation, the rescue diver and the victim were hanging below the helicopter when it unexpectedly flew into the power lines. Remarkably, the helicopter was equipped with cable cutters, which successfully severed the power lines, allowing the crew to rapidly regain control of the aircraft.

Despite regaining control, the winch cable was released, and both the rescue diver and the victim fell into the water. Fortunately, they were able to swim safely to shore. The incident, captured on video, illustrates the inherent dangers of helicopter rescue operations, especially when conducted close to obstacles such as power lines.

Water can be our best friend or worst enemy we need it to survive & yet people drown all the time. Thankfully the water was a cushion of sorts here glad nobody was seriously hurt thought it would've turned out much worse from the title
