On August 15, 2019, a Ural Airlines Airbus A321, en route from Moscow's Zhukovsky airport to Simferopol in Crimea, encountered a critical emergency shortly after takeoff. The aircraft, carrying 226 passengers and seven crew members, collided with a flock of birds, resulting in multiple bird strikes to the aircraft engines.

The incident occurred as the plane ascended from Zhukovsky International Airport, where the proliferation of birds near the area is attributed to illegal waste dumps. The birds were sucked into the plane's engines, causing both engines to fail. The skillful and quick thinking of the crew, particularly the pilot in command, 41-year-old Damir Yusupov, and the first officer, 23-year-old Georgy Murzin, was crucial in handling the dire situation.

The pilots managed to perform an emergency landing in a cornfield near Moscow. Remarkably, there were no fatalities due to the crash. However, up to 55 passengers, including 17 children, required medical attention, with six being hospitalized, as reported by Russian state news agency TASS.

The aircraft was significantly damaged and was subsequently deemed unserviceable for future use.
