Helicopter Carrying Philippine National Police Officers Crashes During Take-off
In the Philippines, a helicopter transporting Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Archie Gamboa encountered a crash on Thursday morning in San Pedro, Laguna. Following the crash, Gamboa and his companions were swiftly transported to a nearby hospital. Fortunately, initial reports indicated that Gamboa remained conscious when he was extricated from the wreckage. He was initially admitted to the West Lake Medical Center in San Pedro before being subsequently transferred to St. Lukes Medical Center in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig. According to Lt. Col. Serafin Petalio, the provincial director of the Laguna police, Gamboa sustained minor injuries to his right shoulder. The incident occurred as Gamboa was in San Pedro for an official visit to the impounding site of the local Highway Patrol Group. He was en route to a command visit at Camp Vicente Lim in Calamba, Laguna when the helicopter accident transpired. The helicopter was carrying a total of eight individuals, including Gen. Gamboa. Among the passengers were Maj. Gen. Mariel Magaway, PNP Director for Intelligence; Maj. Gen. Jose Maria Ramos, Director for Comptrollership; Brig. Gen. Bernard Banac, PNP spokesperson; pilot Lt. Col. Zalatar; co-pilot Lt. Col. Macawili; Senior Master Sergeant Estona, a member of the helicopter crew; and Capt. Gayramara, Gen. Gamboa's aide. Thankfully, all eight occupants of the helicopter emerged from the incident with minor injuries, as confirmed by the PNP Public Information Office. Lt. Col. Petalio explained that the helicopter had encountered visibility challenges during takeoff from a dusty section of the area, likely contributing to the mishap. |

Pilot error no matter what they say in the papers. Pilot knows the area when they went in. vertical drop from high got in okay. When they tried to take off, pilot did not do a higher vertical lift before veering away. minor lift then veered of to the nearest high tension wires. Typical form of impatience and over confidence.

Well, only partly correct. The helicopter was most like at or near gross weight, and it looks like while he MAY have wanted to get a bit more vertical before transitioning into flight, he couldn't, and over-torqued it. Loss of rotor, loss of tair rotor authority, and... Well, everyone's having a very bad day.
