The pilot is not pleased at his internet photo. He is happy he is alive. Aviation deaths from bird strikes are pretty common. Hitting a bird is something like having a shotgun fired at you, including the noise. It is unbelievably violent. They don't just go "Whack" on the windshield. It is like a shotgun blast of feathers, meat, and blood. I have repaired aircraft after bird strikes, and it is nasty, smelly, and gross. Also they do a lot of structural damage such as torn skin sections, bent intercostals and ribs, etc. One foot over and that guy probably would be dead.

It's bad. But the birds don't do it on purpose. And it IS their sky! They were born with wings. They are meant to fly. It's not their fault we made planes and invaded their sky.
It's inevitable there are going to be bird hits. Just another price nature (and humans) pay.
