A tragic incident unfolded off the southeast coast of Spain when a Spanish air force pilot lost his life after his military plane crashed into the sea. Spain's defense ministry reported that search teams discovered a body in the water, believed to be that of Commander Francisco Marin Nunez.

The pilot had managed to eject from his single-seat light attack aircraft just before it crashed into the sea near La Manga, Murcia. The tragic event occurred during a routine training flight on a Monday morning.

The aircraft, a Spanish-built C-101, made contact with the water shortly before 9:40 am local time (7:40 am GMT). Eyewitnesses observed the aircraft nosediving before slightly pulling up just before impact.

In response to the emergency, rescue boats and a helicopter were dispatched to search for the airman. However, despite their efforts, the pilot's life could not be saved.

As of the initial reports, the exact cause of the crash remained unknown, and authorities were awaiting forensic confirmation of the pilot's identity. Commander Francisco Marin Nunez was noted as a flying instructor at the military's General Air Academy.

The aftermath of the incident saw parts of the crashed plane washing up on Galua beach, where a strong smell of gas lingered.
