Italian police have released haunting footage captured on board a helicopter that tragically collided with a tourist plane. The chilling video, made public by the Italian mountain rescue team Soccorso Alpino, offers a glimpse of the final moments before the catastrophic incident that claimed the lives of seven people in January 2019.

The footage, captured through the lenses of two GoPro cameras affixed to the two aircraft in flight, initially portrays serene scenes of the Italian Alps. However, the tranquility is abruptly shattered as the cameras capture the heart-stopping collision between the plane and the helicopter.

One camera angle seems to be from the perspective of the small plane, while the other provides a view from the front window of the helicopter.

Reports from earlier in the year, when the tragic incident unfolded, suggest that the helicopter had taken off mere minutes before the collision, and the pilot had apparently not detected the approach of the four-seater light aircraft coming in for a landing.

Delfino Viglione, the local police rescue chief, recounted that the plane's undercarriage collided with the main rotor of the helicopter, leading to the fatal outcome.

The devastating accident occurred on January 25, 2019, above a small region in northern Italy, approximately 80 kilometers northwest of Turin.
