P-47 Landing Collision at Metz Airfield, January 1945

On January 24, 1945, a P-47 Thunderbolt landing on the icy runway at Metz airfield Y-34 collided with another parked P-47.

The landing aircraft was P-47D-28 C4-N, serial number 42-28614, from the 388th Fighter Squadron, 365th Fighter Group. Its landing gear collapsed during the landing. The other aircraft was a P-47D-4, "Mamie," serial number 42-22747, identified as C4-R WW.
