@ TwistedPrincess I finally got around to reading the article you posted and wanna thank you for sharing - it was an interesting read. Although it's sad that a user continues to use even after he/she loses a limb or two, it's not surprising. It's the same story with every addictive drug I'm afraid. Smokers with lung cancer typically continue to smoke; alcoholics with cirrhosis of the liver usually continue to drink, and crackheads with heart problems almost always continue to smoke up. This is why I can understand why medical/hospital staff become irritated if they repeatedly have to treat a drug addict for a medical problem (especially if it's a medical emergency) caused as a result of using whatever drug the junkie uses. That's drug addiction for you though - It's fucking devastating. It controls the user like a puppet and it doesn't let go. Sure, you can put the junkie in a slammer for a year or two and that person will sober up... At least physically. However, once his/her time is up, most likely the first thing on that person's mind will be getting high (jail time won't eliminate psychological addiction or craving). |

Check out the addict giving birth in another thread, if you want to see something sadder! I'm glad I don't have low self esteem to start abusing myself in such an awful way. My one vice is being up front at concerts :)
