Re: Grizzlies On My Island

Beautiful bears. Looks like the kind of place I'd love to build a log home and retire. I really want to move to a mountain top next to a fjord in Norway, but BC would do. 😅

I was born in Tacoma, WA. Been to your neck of the woods once on a 4 hour Seattle-Victoria cruise on the Princess Marguerite. I was under 10 years old and it was one of my fondest memories ever. Haven't been in that part of the world since 1986. 😔 I REALLY miss it. 🌲🌲🌲🌲

The closest I've gotten since 1986 was visiting my mom and stepdad in Western Montana a couple of times.

I did spot a buck in their front yard during my trip in 2024. He spotted me too. lol They used to have a mountain lion come up to their back door. No bears though.

Another cool thing we get here, especially north island, are Elk.
You go outside at night and there will be like 30 of them in your yard eating grass.
They are pretty much the size of horses.

Re: Grizzlies On My Island

Here is a herd in the same estuary as the grizzlies.
The bears don't even care though. All they want is Cow Parsnip.

I've never seen a live mountain lion or cougar.
I saw a dead one that they shot out of a tree near here. It was killing pet dogs.

It seems weird that I haven't seen one though. They are around for sure.

Wow, did you take those videos? Are they aggressive to humans like moose can be?

They also have elk near my moms. I used to work with a bunch of guys who would go to Montana every year to hunt them.

I have never seen one in person, but I've always kind of liked the noises they make, so have watched a lot of videos.

I know there are moose in BC, but are there any on your island?

Yeah, I took those. I keep my distance from them.

But there are no moose on this island.

Re: Grizzlies On My Island

Also, I think the mountain lion that used to visit their door was ill or old. It was pretty thin. I'll have to see if she still has it the photos of it.

That was closer to the time they first built the house and they were the only one on that mountain. They haven't seen one since that one disappeared and there has been a few other houses developed near them since then.

I don't blame you.

Strange how there are elk and grizzly, but no moose.

Actually it was the front window. lol You can see the retaining wall next to the driveway where I saw the buck 14 years later.
