Re: Chernobyl 25 Years Later
What Chernobyl always reminds me of is why! we who were kids in 1986 still was allowed to play outside when the radioactive clouds reached Scandinavia a couple of days later. I wonder what surprises the future holds for my health because of that....

Re: Chernobyl 25 Years Later
Somewhere I've always wanted to visit, hopefully I'll get there one day. Would be nice to be able to explore the area in my own time, but if I have to go along on a bus tour and be out of the area within 5 hours then so be it. Radiation is serious shit.

Re: Chernobyl 25 Years Later
I heard that it is still testing at too high levels of radiation still. To go there you got to wear these special suits and ventilators. A few years back I saw a doc that said something like it would be completely rejuvenated and free of radiation (like the accident never happened) in 20,000 years.

Re: Chernobyl 25 Years Later
Well 20,000 years is a small estimate for the core itself which will remain radioactive for hundreds of thousands of years due to Plutonium-239 and the area around it will be contaminated by Ceasium-137 which has a half life of about 30 years, so it will be a few hundred years before it finally decays into Barrium-137/137m which has a half life of ten years. so more like 500/600 hundred years before the radioative isomers dissapear from the area around it.

Re: Chernobyl 25 Years Later
It could happen again, lets sure as hell hope that it's not! Just imagine a terrorist plot that involved nuclear plants- that gives me nightmares. But I can't believe they'd be stupid enough to contaminate the lands they intend to conquer with Islam. Nuclear Plants must be replaced. I wish they'd hurried up the research of fusion reactors but we won't see those until a hundred years or so. |
