American Hobos

Hobos were homeless Confederates, who after the American Civil War, left the South to look for work. Since most were farmers before the war, they would carry a ho with them. Hence the term, ho boys or hobos for short. And yes, they would, if hungry enough and nothing else was to be had, boil a leather shoe, to soften it up, and eat it. |

Great photos. Entitlement and welfare caused the Hobo to become extinct. Why work and live in those condition when the US Welfare system will pay you to not work, give you free housing, free food stamps and give you more money if you have children.
