I had the chance to see one of the original curved barrel assault rifles when I visited Aberdeen Maryland. I also got to meet the big fat guy you always see on all the special military programs for the History Channel/Discovery Military Channel. William Atwater, who is the director for the United states Army Ordinance Museum.

We got to go in the back and see a Barrel attachment for the STG-44 along with countless other items. It was called the Krummlauf. Our experience was almost exactly like the video for the military channel. (Only we spent 6 hours there) Greatest museum I have ever visited!

The picture you posted is the US M3 sub-machine gun with a curved barrel. It came in 1953' years after the Germans had used it in WWII. Which in my mind makes it even more brain-less considering the Germans used it in small production and found it was absolutely stupid years earlier.

Below is the image of a XFY-1.... an attempt at a vertical takeoff aircraft. Obviously it was impossible to land safe, just slow as balls and impossible to maneuver.
