Re: 2012 Executions in the USA
Mario Rashad Swain Executed November 8, 2012 6:39 p.m. CDT by Lethal Injection in Texas ![]() Victim: Lola Nixon, 44 Crime: By Dec. 28, 2002, Lola Nixon's friends were worried about her. She hadn't shown up to dinner the night before, so they went to her Longview home to see if she was OK. When they arrived, they found that the home had been broken into and there was blood throughout the house. Police quickly found a lead: 23-year-old Mario Swain, who'd been driving a pickup truck that neighbors spotted outside Nixon's home the night she disappeared. Swain agreed to talk to police. Although he initially tried to inculpate two different men as being responsible for an attack on Nixon, each had an alibi. Ultimately, Swain confessed: Nixon came home while he was burglarizing her house; he bludgeoned her with a tire iron, put her into the trunk of her car, and drove to a field, where he left her. She was still breathing, he said, but barely conscious. After a three-day trial, Swain was sentenced to death. Citations: Swain v. State, 181 S.W.3d 359 (Tex.Crim.App. 2005). (Direct Appeal) Swain v. Thaler, 466 Fed.Appx. 393 (5th Cir. 2012). (Federal Habeas) Final/Special Meal: Texas no longer offers a special "last meal" to condemned inmates. Instead, the inmate is offered the same meal served to the rest of the unit which was tacos, rice, corn, and mixed beans and greens, with punch, milk, tea, and water to drink. Final/Last Words: None. |

Re: 2012 Executions in the USA
Anyone else think that Donald Eugene Moeller looks like a demented Santa Claus. As far as California, executions aren't going to start anytime soon. Besides the endless legal wranging, (now that they have a state-of-the art execution chamber instead of a cramped, dimly lit former gas chamber the main thing being argued it the continued use of the three-drug protocal instead of the single drug) all of California's death juice expired ages ago and thanks to the nationwide shortage of it they can't get more. |
