People don't realize how chaotic a situation like that is. Most of the people around while it was happening probably didn't see the gunman. Just heard the shots, and couldn't tell where exactly they were coming from. And then you see people running, and like you said, instincts kick in and you run the same direction.

Just because you have a gun on you doesn't mean you want to get into a gun battle.

And on top of that, in that situation, pulling your gun out could get you shot by someone else, or the police. Because like I said, the situation is chaotic. Most people don't know who's shooting, and if they see someone holding a gun, they might assume it's you shooting.

Which brings me to some good advice. If you are ever in a situation like that, and you pull you weapon and put down the gunman. Put your gun down immediately and stand away from the body.

I'm not anti cop, but they're arriving ready to put some holes in someone.

He voluntarily gave himself up. Peacefully. Apparently he was in his car, when he got out vs surrendered to them. We don't even know (yet) if they were even aware of what vehicle to be looking for. He stopped himself.

Ammosexuals use the "good guy with a gun" bit to mean your every day concealed carry person. And they usually follow that first saying up with "when seconds count, the cops are only minutes away".

With that being said, I think the subsequent Dayton shooting obviously refutes this ideology, even if it is a rare occurrence. Betts was taken out between 30 and 60 seconds after he began firing. Unfortunately, 8 victims and 20-something wounded in less than a minute is absolutely horrifying.
