Re: The Station Nightclub Fire - Feb 2003

I'm just jumping in to say I agree that the book is a must read if the topic of the fire interests you. I think the Station fire, since it was so well documented through video, is what really got me looking into nightclub fires and human stampedes. The two things are fairly connected, as shown by the number of people who were trapped and crushed in the Station fire.

I just noticed at 6:09 you can see a person stagger out of the doorway on fire.

Its videos and images like these that have me looking for exits and hazards every time I'm in a crowded area.

Re: The Station Nightclub Fire - Feb 2003

I'm glad I didn't see this at the time because I was a bit traumatized by even the verbal descriptions we were hearing on TV. I am also one of those who likes to know where the exits are (and stay close to them!) for that very reason. I decided to tough it out and watch this tonight and I'm actually really glad I did. It's not an easy watch but it very clearly shows how quickly a fire becomes out of control and inescapable. Lots of incompetence involved here with the nightclub owners and whoever set up the pyro... why bands even need explosives onstage, I'll never quite understand. The music itself was always good enough for me. But anyway, thank you for posting this, and you've definitely got me interested in reading that book too.

I'd love to hear your stories about it!!! I am obsessed with this tragedy and learning all I can about it. It's also made me more aware of my surroundings no matter where I am.

The body found in the Office is believed to be that of waitress Dina Dimaio, who was working her 30th birthday that evening. It is said that she ran back to grab her belongings, and never made it out.

The 2 bodies in the Ladies' Room are thought to be of victims Katherine O'Donnell and Bridget Sanetti. One of the first 911 calls that came in was from Bridget, stating she was in the bathroom and the club was on fire. She had gone back there, with her friend, right before Great White came on stage. You can actually hear her uncle, Rick Sanetti, screaming for Bridget in the video outside of the club.

The "bouncer" (I use this term very lightly here- he was really just a regular of the club who was there to "help out" that night) who was blocking the stage door exit was reportedly Scott Vieira, who is seen in the still photos next to the box of pyro with a cig dangling out of his mouth. His wife, Kelly, is seen near him... she has dark hair and a white shirt on. She died later in the hospital from her injuries.

I've also done a ton of research on this topic, as I have a personal connection to it, as well as a general interest since I lived in the area. I know people who were lost in the fire, friends who lost loved ones... I could talk about this all day.

How do I post a pic? I found a pic of the inside of the station before the bodies were moved.
