Re: Selena Murder: Death Pictures, Crime Scene Photos & Videos
....Um, no. What does her being big there have anything to do with her being American? She was born and raised in Texas, and her music was big among Hispanics in the States before she ever blew up in Mexico.

Re: Selena Murder: Death Pictures, Crime Scene Photos & Videos
I actually really hate that she made it onto this website. She was a really sweet girl, funny, naive, wholesome.. she was a big time idol for me and a lot of Hispanic kids in the 90's.. she also did a lot for her community. She doesn't deserve to be gaped over and made fun of. ![]() ![]() |

Re: Selena Murder: Death Pictures, Crime Scene Photos & Videos
I'll say it again if I haven't said it before. Selena was killed because of her love and trust. She really loved people. She loved her husband, her family, her fans and supporters and she loved the woman who finally killed her. When it was discovered the woman had been embezzling funds from the fan club Selena refused to believe the woman could do such a thing. She wanted a chance to go talk to the woman and have the woman explain herself and perhaps work things out. Her father was adamant that Selena should not confront the woman alone but instead allow him to do this. She insisted on going alone to talk to the woman. And we all know the tragic results. I first heard the woman sing when I was heading back to California after a job in Alabama. I had seen my daughter before leaving and heard her talk about her dancing lessons and singing for the school. The young singer on the radio reminded me of my daughter and I couldn't help but be cheered to hear such a great voice while driving. At the next gas station I saw her tape by the register and so took it with me. It was my only entertainment while I went through the famous Texas dead zone with no radio for mile after mile. I listened to her tape several times and just loved that tape. It was Amor Prohibido. It included the first song I ever heard her sing. Bidi Bidi Bom Bom. When I arrived in California my friends and I would sit around drinking beers and trying to sing along. I learned alot of spanish very quickly. So, when Selena was murdered it was a huge shock and pained me greatly. I had purchased another copy to give to my daughter but after hearing that I just never did. I never listened to her music again until now. For those who take the time to listen to her last concert, I hope you enjoy her music as much as I did. There was always something about her voice that reached across cultural bounderies, languages, and borders. With her venture into English language music she was set to create an English album with some Spanish. If anyone could of done this, it was her. Believe it or not her first big culture jump was reaching out to the Mexican audience. She was carefully coached on her spanish so she could speak to reporters in Mexico and her greatest fear was to be rejected by the Mexican Audience who have a deep distrust for Mexican-Americans and look for verbal gaffes. Oh yes, Selena was an American product with her own special style of music. If she had lived I believe she would of added much to our American culture and eventually gone mainstream. At 14:50 is one song I tried the most to learn and understand. It really opened my eyes about moving on and letting go with good cheer. . |

Re: Selena Murder: Death Pictures, Crime Scene Photos & Videos
So sad. I was a fan for a couple years before she passed. When I was in high school my Spanish teacher would use Spanish songs to help us learn the language. She often used Selena's music and that's how I learned of her and became a fan. I bought the cd Voces Unidas (a cd of Spanish songs for the Olympics) and the cd of West Side Story that was covered by different pop and r and b artists. She was talented and sweet and did not deserve this. I saw the movie when it first came out but I can't bring myself to watch it again. Too sad.
