It actually became more famous when the boys convicted of the crime garnered support from a lot of people including, but not limited to, Johnny Depp, Eddie Vedder, Henry Rollins and countless other people. They got out by signing the Alford Plea. Now no one will see justice for the murder of these boys.

I'm not in the US either, I'm Australian - thought it was fairly well known everywhere but anyhow...an Alford Plea in the US is a guilty plea while maintaining your innocence. Basically they came to an agreement where they'd plead guilty, on the understanding that they did not admit they did it, but only to get out. It's a pretty rare thing to happen.

An Alford plea (also called a Kennedy plea in West Virginia,man Alford guilty plea, and the Alford doctrine) in United States law is a guilty plea in criminal court, whereby a defendant in a criminal case does not admit the criminal act and asserts innocence. In entering an Alford plea, the defendant admits that the evidence the prosecution has would be likely to persuade a judge or jury to find the defendant guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. They signed this to get Damien Echols off death row and get out of prison although they all stated they would rather have gotten a not guilty verdict. It also protects the state from being sued for malicious prosecution. A lot of celebrities and musicians were interested because part of the prosecution's case asserted they were devil worshippers because they wore black and listened to metal bands like Metallica. Metallica actually did the soundtrack in the Paradise Lost movies. The Alford Plea also looks like a 'win' for the prosecution so this case will remain closed. The last thing I heard was that the three guys were going to pay independent investigators to look in to the case but without cooperation from the police and district attorney it is probably a lost cause.  |

Yes Terry Hobbs is a real creep. In one thing I watched they said he had molested some other kids. Plus his DNA was found in the laces that tied the boys up. It is the whole Occam's razor argument. The case against the boys is farfetched. I guess it is possible they could have done it because anything is possible. I just took offense to the prosecution claiming guilt because of the music they listened to. And their devil worship or occcult crimes expert was a moron with no valid data. Had he actually researched the Church of Satan, for example, he would have seen that harming defenseless animals or children is a sin in their religion. Basically you do not fuck with someone unless they fuck with you and only after you ask them to stop. Harming something defenseless and not a worthy opponent is a sign of weakness. These guys did not belong to that church anyway. I know someone who does and he gets fucking irritated with bullshit like that. Plus the FBI has come out after years of research to say there is no evidence to support an underground devil worshipping cult that supposedly caused all these hidden memories. In the 80's there were a lot of rumors but it was later found these were planted by psychiatrists. Occult murders are very rare.

It's a despicable crime, but, there are six victims here! I knew from the first time I heard of this case, the one boy's stepfather was involved! The two other guys were not sentenced to death, and I believe, could have been released, but, they did not want to leave Damien there to die. They should sue the balls off the State!   I don't care what they signed! |
