Pictures From The Diane Schuler Taconic Parkway Crash
I just saw that fascinating HBO documentary "There's Something Wrong With Aunt Diane". Interesting and tragic story. Found the images online that were included in the documentary; still looking for additional photos. I also included the police accident report and the autopsy report.
Schuler, along with her son, daughter, and nieces, was returning from a camping trip in the Catskills. Her husband, Daniel Schuler, and the family dog, traveled in a separate vehicle. The incident unfolded in the early afternoon when Schuler drove her minivan southbound in the northbound lane of the parkway for 1.7 miles, eventually colliding head-on with an SUV. The crash immediately killed Schuler, her daughter, her three nieces, and the three men in the SUV — Guy Bastardi, his father Michael Bastardi, and their friend Daniel Longo. Schuler's 5-year-old son miraculously survived but suffered severe injuries. Investigations into the crash revealed perplexing details. Autopsy and toxicology reports indicated that Schuler had a blood alcohol level of 0.19% – more than double the legal limit – and a high level of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the active ingredient in marijuana. This finding was at odds with her family's and friends' descriptions of Schuler as a responsible and caring mother who rarely drank. Schuler's husband vehemently denied the possibility of his wife being intoxicated, leading to widespread speculation and debate. He commissioned a private autopsy, which did not yield results significantly different from the official one. Witnesses reported seeing Schuler's minivan being driven aggressively earlier that day, and calls to her brother, Warren Hance – the father of the three nieces – indicated that Schuler was disoriented and had difficulty seeing clearly. Despite these findings, many questions remain unanswered. Schuler's motives and state of mind during the drive continue to be a subject of speculation and controversy. The incident has raised awareness about issues of substance abuse and mental health, especially concerning how they can be concealed in seemingly stable individuals. |

Re: Pictures From The Diane Schuler Taconic Parkway Crash
The additional photos are Diane Schuler in the McDonalds, and the gas station. The morning before the accident she stopped at a McDonalds for breakfast with the kids. The staff reported she was not showing signs of intoxication. She purchased a coffee and an orange juice. She also stopped at a gas station, and asked the cashier if they sold over the counter pain relievers such as Tylenol or Advil. They did not. The cashier also noted that she did not appear intoxicated. Sorry if this has already been posted. I searched the forums and did not find documentation on this accident. |

I was skeptical as well, as the only similarities are the dark hair and black shirt. But these were the images used in the documentary. I was unable to find any more photos of her, or the other victims.
