The best way I can explain it is the plane formed a shape charge as it plowed through the building. A rocket propelled grenade has copper in it warhead that gets so hot it will continue on through a target even after the warhead has exploded. A plane has all sorts of different metals in it, aluminum, copper, titanium, and though there is not much steel in a plane to keep the weight down, there is some. That is the best comparison I can come up with.
