He had a basilar skull fracture. His helmet had nothing to do with his death. The lack of a HANS device is what killed him.

It had nothing to do with the Hans Device worn lap belt open face helmet killed him why then did they ban open face helmets after the his crash his son stop wearing his the next week Nascar made rules after his crash lap belts wear to be inspected by Nascar not left up to the teams the Hans Device bullshit is because the Hans device was new at the time and some drivers wore them some didn't Earnhardt didn't wear one & made fun of the drivers who did (Jeff Gordon) all you have to do is look at Ken Schrader face when he looked in Earnhardt car his face & body reaction tell it all read his autopsy report read Nascar's full investigation into the crash his face was crushed when his seatbelt snapped form over use even Simpson the lap belt maker was investigated & face possible ban from Nascar & Simpson was found to be not at fault
