I thought he died instantly from injuries related to internal decapitation. Also just so there's no confusion, The Intimidator still runs shit in the south, went to Myrtle Beach couple years and there was a guy that had his monte carlo fuggin done up with every decal the same as Dale Earnhardt's race car, and we're talking this was like a Wednesday night, not race day and no race tracks nearby. Awesome. |

The cause of death is listed as head trauma, but, he pretty much broke nearly every bone in his body. The photos were sealed by his wife, but, I know someone has them! The Autopsy pictures were never released. Teresa got them and had a judge in Florida seal them. An open faced or closed face helmet wouldn't have made a difference. His face struck nothing nor was it crushed. He died of what's called a Basal Skull Fracture a kind of internal decapitation. He was dead as soon as his car hit the wall.

If the seatbelt hadn't snapped he would likely still be there. The impact wasn't that hard at all. Yes, he was going fast, but he hit diagonally, and he was already close to the wall, meaning he didn't have time to gain some momentum towards the wall. Anyway, we'll never know... |

Actually, this is the complete accident report from NASCAR and specialists, including the crash reconstructions, etc. It's extensive to the nth degree.
