I live pretty close to Boston, its a big city but the marathon doesn't have the same sort of significance as other targets, and it seemed kind of amateurish. I think its more likely this was a small group of people than a terrorist cell.

AQ has actually been pushing for "homegrown jihadists" (singletons and small teams ) to act out on their own. Seems likely that anyone answering the call so to speak would hit close to home, a place they are familiar with and would search for local venues and activities with high public visibility.

Dude, you may be right. That's either an artery or a very bloody piece of rope (ie tourniquet). But if it's the loose end of a tourniquet, why the need to hold it up in the air like that. Gotta be a piece of the victim's anatomy.
