Nah the picture of the suspect shows him wearing the cap backwards so it's not a 3 that's on it it's more like an E.

The hat definitely has a 3 on it. Not an E. We've had this conversation already earlier in this thread. We've had better shots of his hat and agreed it's the Ralph Lauren Polo hat.

Re: Boston Marathon Explosion Pictures & Video

I do feel that an American patriotism blinds some of the people on this board, and leads to some disgraceful generalisations about islam, amongst other things. Not that I support terrorism in any way, but almost all attacks on America have been - in the broadest sense - retaliatory. Nothing will ever excuse attacks on innocents - whether it's a misguided NATO missile or flying a plane into an office building. Even the least cynical person would struggle to find an argument that doesn't ultimately lead back to capitalism and oil.

Doh, I must have either blanked or missed it. Sorry guys. When I saw it, I thought if it was, it would be interesting because the MIT cop was the brother of a NASCAR (Hendrick) machinist.

Re: Boston Marathon Explosion Pictures & Video

My issue with the media focus on these rather minor incidents of terrorism is how they are blown out of proportion and how the threat of terroristic acts is greatly exaggerated. These incidents are sensationalistic and stir up emotions and nationalism. When compared with other modes of violence and death, the Jihadist threat is miniscule. Four people died in Boston. In 2012, there were 500 murders in Chicago. In 2010, over 10,000 people died in alcohol-related car crashes in the US. You are much more likely to die in a car accident than be blown up by a terrorist.

*snip* Even the least cynical person would struggle to find an argument that doesn't ultimately lead back to capitalism and oil.
I will be the first to say I'm probably biased by Patriotism. My grandfather spent a life in the Navy. But I've also seen the photos my husband and father have brought back from these wars. I've seen the special award my father got for helping widowed, single and maimed-by-acid Afghani women set up businesses there to help support their families. I've seen amazing pictures of him sitting with those families - invited in to do the only thing they can afford - give him supper. I've seen personal photos of the desecration of Abraham's home near the Talil base, and I've seen horrific pictures of what Saddam had done to some of his own people.

Everything will lead to the argument you believe. We all do it. When looking at things like war, we make a snap judgment then only find what will support it. I try to pride myself on seeing both sides and not buying into the hype. The oil argument is futile at best. Media who want to paint Iraq as worse off will find those who supported Saddam - you don't think that biases people as much as Patriotism for the US? The Libyans VASTLY supported Ghaddafi - but the rest of the world was shown images of them "cheering"... except those were the rebels. Ghaddafi took back his country, it had a 50% income rate for oil sold. He rejected it and negotiated 80% IIRC. He took a 22% literacy rate and jumped it higher than the US (by some studies). He built 7 hospitals that treated everyone and not only did he build colleges, he sponsored a program to send Libyans to college abroad. Not to mention all his work in creating the EU.

But if you look at sites in the US - he was a brutal dictator who killed everyone and so on and so on. Except even the story of "200+" found in a mass grave outside a prison that was used by multiple countries to hype it, even NOW? Yeah, no one mentions the international team that went in, dug around and found no bones.

Most of the things he did, were retaliatory - things that were directly coming for him. There's a problem with your argument though. People bombing innocents isn't "retaliatory". That comparison is absurd. None of those 3,000 people went over and killed any one of their family and they murdered and maimed women, cutting off their clits. They committed crimes against themselves. I'm pretty sure Martin didn't march up and throw acid on one of their wives. 98% of the US had no part in anything while at one point, Afghanistan males were nearly 70% terrorists or supporters - women offering up their children. Pregnant women being suicide bombers - killing each other.

The fear we experienced for one day in Boston, these people have suffered every single day, multiple times a day long before the US ever got involved. Wouldn't you want to stop having your own personal Boston happening outside your door, waiting for someone to come in, rape your wife, rape your daughter and drag you and/or your child son to be terrorists and if you refuse, they all die?

The US being blamed is all the rage... yet somehow, no one ever mentions the inhumane treatment they did against each other and little girls they'd rape as "wives". These aren't just stories by some reporter who's watching from his comfy chair - these are the stories told by the very women who've been through it, sometimes multiple times. Malala Yousafzai exists, she isn't an invention.

All that said - these guys never even came close to any of that. They never lived there. In fact, they are having a tough time even finding that they were trained by anyone. I know that may change, but we gave them our country. They gave us death and destruction.
