Now I've been hearing from various sources that security at Boston seemed massively elevated and there were PA announcements informing people that it was an emergency response drill. People reported bomb-sniffing dogs, homeland security and pictured below, almost 3 hours prior to the bomb there was a Boston Police Special Operations team "parading" through the crowd.

They were doing sweeps. Should you really tell a crowd of tens of thousands "Yeah, we're looking for bombs laying around." Can you imagine that stampede of people freaking out that they think the police have a reason to search? You might as well scream shooter at a school.

There are hundreds and sometimes thousands of training exercises carried out every day across the country. Right now, some town in Colorado may be doing a mock drill like Aurora to make the city more efficient. The military is doing drills right now in Arizona out of Luke AFB. Larger cities always have drills going on nearby because they do emergency planning for multitudes of different situations. My ex was stationed at USAFA played a victim in their mock drill and a day later, some Arab men crashed the gate. Conspiracy? No.

I've seen the silly circular logic employed by the conspiracy idjits on this one. It starts with the police, moves to the "people on the roof" (in a city with roof gardens and roof access for brownstones, no way!), winds through that coach who said the police said they were doing a drill and had spotters on the roof (which the conspirists claim he said snipers and bomb plots now), then come right back to the police. Of course there would be people stationed on roofs - there always is at major events. It's called "birds eye view". Same reason NASCAR guys have spotters that are on the roof of the media center - because they can see things the people on the ground can't. There are completely and totally logical explanations for all that stuff here.

And for the record, I'm someone who believes that the towers were attacked, but were detonated because I think it would be completely logical to be able to bring down a huge skyscraper in a controlled manner if it's in danger instead of falling sideways, killing people in apartments and buildings around it and thousands more on the ground. So I don't dismiss conspiracy theories out of hand. But of course no one would believe that could happen so people disputed what they saw. There were conflicting reports on the first plane type even though we had video of it. Who would believe it? Some days, I still can't fathom how coordinated it was, how simple it was and how damaging it was and how precise they hit the towers.

I understand what they were doing and I don't mean to jump to any conclusions; America is very different to my neck of the woods.

The reports I'm referring to were from people who attend many (or most) of these marathons, one guy said he had been to much larger events and never seen a security presence of that scale before. I'll take his word for it that there was something unusual going on there, yet the police said they had no prior warnings or cause for suspicion.

I absolutely believe the twin towers collapsed, the supposed detonations as they collapsed don't convince me in the slightest. It just looked like pressure blowing out windows as the structure plummeted through floors.

As I said before, there are conspiracy theorists always taking this stuff too far and negating the logical evidence that was presented.

Have you looked at the 7/7 bombings? There's an event that doesn't even fit what was reported. All the news channels reported that two men had been shot at Canary Wharf, then they all retracted or "forgot" the story even after interviewing eye witnesses. Apparently people were mistaken, there was an "incident" but nobody was shot. The shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes was like a touch of perfect insanity to finish the story.

Someone on Reddit posted more photos of the guys I spotted, and they're watching another guy who heads west towards bomb 2.

Also, there's some interesting photos of a guy in blue with a backpack. Seems like it could be him placing the brown bag on the roadside, not sure though.

Confused/distracted Asian guy looks guilty. It's starting to look like a very suspicious crowd.

There are people saying that the extra security and "drills" were ordered from higher up because the bomb was planned by our government to overshadow the fact that we accidentally bombed an Afghanistan wedding killing 30 innocent people and injury over 100. Just another theory.

According to CNN an arrest has already taken place, but it's unconfirmed: two hours ago the authorities said that "an arrest was imminent", and that the suspect was identified thanks to two videos.

People have been identifying some interesting characters from photos prior to the explosions. I thought I'd share the ones I found from 4chan then as I was looking at the photos I thought I saw someone else who's backpack went missing but now I'm not so sure.

I went back and sorted the images of two guys (one with a backpack) who look Middle Eastern seemingly looking for a third guy who appears at ~13mins with a backpack.

I've labelled the photos I was looking through with times taken from the camera EXIF data starting from 00:07, clearly the times are wrong but they do provide a sequence at least.

The guy with the big shades and beanie is the one who I thought lost his backpack but on closer inspection, it seems he's still wearing it throughout this sequence.

People can say what they want about 4chan, but they did a great job picking out the shady characters from all the pics. For free. Good job.

According to CNN journalist John King, both a federal source and a Boston law enforcement source confirmed the news. The identification was based off of two independent videos; they are believed to be a surveillance video from a Lord and Taylor department store and another CCTV video from a local television station. All the sources that i've checked so far indicate CNN as source.
