Re: Seppuku Aka Honor Suicide (Rare Find B&Ws)
Most likely, they used the gun to speed up the process of death. Sepukku is an honorable death and a priviledge. To be given this honor after shaming oneself and family, and then not being able to carry it out is pure cowardice. But it is a slow death, hence the gun. I wouldn't want anyone to use a gun on me, after Sepukku. I'd wish it to be the only method of my death, if I was ever given that honor! In my opinion, the gun subtracts from that honor. |

Re: Seppuku Aka Honor Suicide (Rare Find B&Ws)
I agree! It's an honor for both the friend who decapitates and the one receiving. I'd love to know why the gun was used. Is the gun a more modern form or replacement for the decapitation? If so, then it is a VERY POOR substitute! |

Re: Seppuku Aka Honor Suicide (Rare Find B&Ws)
The "Kaishakunin" was the one who carried out the decapitation. Oh, and he should be know how to perform a decent daki-kubi, too! Daki-kubi is, basically, leaving the head attached to the body by a short/thin strip of flesh. You don't want total decapitation!! So, your Kaishakunin should be good with his sword. This, too, gives honor to both. IDK. It is an honor, but I feel that it would, also, be the cleansing of the blood letting and the pain that would have meaning too. I'm sort of in between on the Kaishakunin. Am I crazy to feel that way, or just a drama queen? |
