Re: Mass Suicide In Vienna, 1945
WW3, if it ever comes to fruition, will result in almost unimaginable socioeconomical destruction, a severe regression in global economics, major restructuring of nation state spheres of influence, and widespread collapse of the transportation, medical, and communication services. Immediate death toll from an all out strategic nuclear exchange between NATO and Russia/China could be as high as 400 million deaths in only 1-2 hours (ICBMS can reach their targets in less than one hour after launch from a silo, and less than 30 minutes from a Trident Class submarine or SLBM's). EMP's from atmospheric detonations will likely torch most of the electric grids of the countries encountering a massive nuclear strike. Add an additional 500 million deaths from the effects of nuclear fallout and disease in the near term and another 1-2 billion more deaths after...say 20 or 30 years from famine, disease, and other indirect results of the war and the global death toll from WW3 could be around 3 billion people. By comparison, around 60 million people died in WW2 over a 6-year period. 400 million will already have died in less than 2 hours from an all out strategic nuclear war. While the possibility exists that WW3 could be fought with only conventional weapons, this is highly unlikely given that Russia still posses over 1000 tactical weapons, making a conventional attack by NATO suicidal at best without a strike on their land based silos. Either way, one side or the other would likely launch before a large scale conventional attack would occurr. This would out of fear that delaying a launch would run the risk of having their arsenal nuetralized before they can be used in defense. While all this is subjective in the sense that nothing of this scale has ever occurred in human history, the total firepower of modernized weapons combined with thousands of nuclear weapons would pretty much ensure that WW3 would make WW2 child's play in comparison. Combine this with the damage done to the infrastructures that enable modern day living and it wouldn't be out of the question that the world, or at least the Northerm Hemishere, could plunge into a modern day version of the dark ages. Anyway, let's hope no one has to find out what would happen for sure. Something like WW3 is probably best kept as a subjective topic as opposed to a real-life experience. |

Re: Mass Suicide In Vienna, 1945
Not much you can do against an entire invading Army armed with a revolver other than to use the 6 shots that you have to ensure your teenage daughter and wife aren't gang-raped to death, while you and your son are forced to watch but put bullets in them. Honestly, it was the wisest thing to do given the circumstances. |
