We all know bipolar, schizophrenia etc were not properly diagnosed. Not even now. Most of the women were put there because of PMS, menopause and post menopausal. Some because they could never have an orgasm.

This is a very interesting thread. Although great strides have been made over the year in mental health care, therapy and medications there is a big problem in the Unites States with people suffering for whom there are no beds and often, unfortunately placed in jail so they will at least get "3 hots and a cot".

I doubt that many of them were 'crazy', most likely depressed.

Fantastic movie; watched it on Prime Video (here in Australia, not sure if the film is on other countries' Prime Videos). Vincent Price was a superb actor.  |
