The west coast is a pretty good place to make a living in general, but I think Washington is the best of the 3. Oregon still has a stiff income tax and California seems to think they're a separate country.

i agree... plus, the laws are better (for me anyway) up here.... mainly, the one legalizing marijuana

I don't know how the cooks are paid. The only waitressing I have done is working banquets part time at a Hotel and they had a chef and a couple of sous chefs. I know the chef did quite well. I was a cocktail waitress in my early twenties and Kanda is right. I would come home with my pockets full of tip money. I only was paid $2.00 an hour, though. I had an old waitress argue with me that I ordered chicken wings one time.

I don't eat them because they are a pain in the ass to eat. Some people love them!

I always ordered chicken fingers and potato skins then.

On my way out, I handed her a quarter. Her whole attitude changed after that and she was nice and gave me what I ordered.

all im saying is i think it's a bit more than silly to be socially obligated to tip a specific part of the food service industry but not the rest

With my last post I was trying to convey that it is more understandable to not tip if the server is making the regular minimum wage. Here, in Illinois, they don't make minimum wage so I think it would be more acceptable to tip them. Since where you live they make $9.19, I can understand your point of thinking that tipping isn't necessary. Sorry I wasn't clear.
