Re: Truck Kills Mum, 23, As She Pushes Pram. UK
Nothing wrong with the word "mum'. Or 'wanker'. How is 'mum' any more stupid than 'mom'? It's all about accents too. I am married to an American and when he says 'pen' it always sounds like 'pin' to me. To an American 'Tippex' sounds like 'Tampax' apparently, from prior experience. So, in a nutshell, don't get yourself all fired up over words...if you are that stressed by small issues like that you're heading for a heart attack. |

Better not visit Scotland then if you dislike "stupid words". Nothing personal but I hate the way Americans say 'aluminium' - you don't pronounce this i = aluminium AND 'math' instead of 'maths'. I get like Carrie's mum, Margaret White, and say "SAY it!" to myself whenever I hear that · |

that is so old.. you need some more cultural diffusion. i did find a couple words weird though.. "tram" and "pushchair".. i've heard tram before but pushchair? thats new to me.. on a side note, i love british film and "wanker" doesn't bother me at all.. you of all people should know Americans have way worse words. oops, i mean we have hella worse words. SWAG! |

Bonnet = hood. Boot = trunk. Lift = elevator. Pavement = sidewalk. You see the differences in nuances but they mean the same thing but I wouldn't be ignorant enough to call any of your differences in language stupid. |

Tippex is what you guys know as 'white out'. For erasing written words on paper when you've made a mistake. In these days of computers we don't usually write stuff out on paper much anymore. |
