Russia Plane Crash: Dozens Killed in Rostov-on-Don
A passenger jet has crashed in the southern Russian city of Rostov-on-Don, killing all 55 passengers and seven crew on board, officials say. The FlyDubai Boeing 737-800, coming from Dubai, missed the runway as it attempted to land at 03:50 local time (00:50 GMT) on Saturday. It is not clear what caused the crash but poor visibility and high winds are being considered as a factor. CCTV footage showed an explosion and a huge flash after the plane crashed. "The aircraft hit the ground and broke into pieces," the Investigative Committee of Russia said on its website. Reports say the plane abandoned its initial attempt to land and circled for two hours before crashing at the second attempt. Air disasters timeline: It came down about 250m (800ft) short of the start of the runway in Rostov, some 950km (600 miles) south of Moscow. Most of the passengers on board flight FZ981 were Russian, the regional governor said. Another official said three foreigners were on the passenger list, according to Reuters. Six of the crew were non-Russians, a Russian emergency ministry statement said, the news agency reported. About 700 rescue workers were sent to the site of the crash and the fire was extinguished, media reports said. A search is under way for the plane's flight recorders and an investigation has been opened into the cause of the crash. Other flights have been diverted away from the airport. In a statement on its Facebook page, the airliner confirmed the "tragic accident" and said an emergency response has been put in place. Boeing said on Twitter its team was working to gather more details. FlyDubai, a low cost carrier launched in 2009 with a hub in Dubai, operates flights to some 90 destinations. moo slums... Probably a bomb triggered by an altitude trigger. Once the plane left Arab/moo slum Dubai and gained enough altitude, the trigger activated. When descending in Russia and a sufficiently low altitude was reached, the trigger detonated the bomb. This is like the Egyptian bombing - by moo slums - of the Russian jet aircraft. |

Oswald, much as our thoughts differ on the general topic of Islam/Moslems; I have to agree that this is highly likely to be an Islamic terrorist event; isn't it? If this is confirmed, Putin is rightly going to kick shit. Anway, personal views aside, I don't want this thread to spiral, and I hope it stays 'newsworthy'. |

Re: Russia Plane Crash: Dozens Killed in Rostov-on-Don
I'm not an expert in aviation by far - can someone who is explain if it's even possible for a plane coming in for landing to completely smatter to bits, to the point the bodies are pieced apart? Even if they took the photos after the major bodies were removed, I usually see here on DR, bits and pieces of people. This particular crash just doesn't seem to be a crash. |

Re: Russia Plane Crash: Dozens Killed in Rostov-on-Don
Im no expert by far, but if you take the speed of the plane, then add the factor of accelleration due to gravity and then factor in the weight/mass of the plane and with the weather IF there was some kind of a downdraft or wind sheer at the time....its very detailed and investigators "probably have an app" to do the calculations. This is a horrific and I BELIEVE AVOIDABLE tragedy. |
