Murder charges were dropped against a Chicago mother and son involved in a deadly shooting. Initially, police said the mother told her son to shoot someone in a West Pullman fast food restaurant. The surveillance video showed one side of the story – but -released cellphone video shows something else altogether.

The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office said it was unable to “meet our burden of proof in the prosecution of these cases.”

Prosecutors said Hood has a valid firearm owner’s identification card and a concealed-carry permit.

“You have the right to use deadly force to stop that force against another person, and that’s exactly what happened in this case, and that’s exactly why the State’s Attorney’s Office dropped this case today,” CBS 2 legal analyst Irv Miller said.

Neither Hood nor her son has a criminal record.

Chicago mom Carlishia Hood broke down Tuesday while announcing a lawsuit over the since-dropped murder charges filed against her and her 14-year-old son for shooting dead her attacker.

“I’ve experienced pain in many ways — many ways that I would never have thought. Never,” said Hood, who was comforted by her attorneys when she broke down in tears.

“What happened to me was totally unnecessary.”

“Never in a million years would I have imagined being brutally attacked, beaten — and then arrested,” the mom said while announcing her lawsuit less than 24 hours after her release.

“I just thank God everything was revealed,” she said, calling the deadly shooting a “horrible tragedy.”

Hood’s lawyer, Brandon Brown, confirmed that a four-count complaint had been filed Tuesday morning against the city and four arresting cops.

“We do not take what happened to Ms. Hood lightly,” he said — while warning that “there will be additional lawsuits forthcoming.”

Why did a 14yo have a gun to begin with. That's the part that really makes it all worse. I hope they all go under the floors, this trash is why the US is circling the drain. Decent people have gonna MIA.

I don't understand what they can sue for.

There was an altercation, someone was shot dead, they were arrested, an investigation took place and they were released without charge.

That's just the criminal justice system working as it should. Surely?
