Re: Interviews with 6 of Bergdahl's Platoon Mates.

question: why did these platoon members not say anything when they thought Bergdahl was trying to contact the Taliban? Why wait until after the fact to say 'nah... he deserted'? Why didnt they mention that he deserted when they were looking for him?

maybe they did... i havent kept up on this.. but if anybody has answers, i'd love to know the rest of the story.
Non disclosure agreements that they were forced to sign. The "Hero's Welcome" he was receiving made them upset enough to risk even more to get the truth out there.

they claim it wasnt a legal agreement and more of a suggestion in the interview. so, why didnt they mention it 5 years ago when people were dying looking for this guy, is my question?

Because of the world of shit they would have been in. They are still human beings. Same reason atheists in the military attend religious services still, if you recall the conversation we all had about that in the water cooler.

Also, maybe they assumed it would have been handled better?

i have a hard time buying that they wouldnt lie to the taliban if they were captured in order to save their lives but they would withhold information for social reasons based on a suggestion... doesnt add up to me.

if they were involved with looking for this guy, they should have known first hand how it was being handled. they seemed to not care until there was media involved....

I'm talking about the hero's welcome he was going to receive. Maybe they thought there'd be an actual investigation before government assets declared him a hero.

We clearly disagree, and neither one of us were in his unit, so let's just see how this turns out.

Re: Interviews with 6 of Bergdahl's Platoon Mates.

Wasn't the welcome home deal, was when talk of negotiation about the trade of five notorious radicals, for someone they knew for a fact was a traitor. Me personally would have risked my career and possibly freedom by breaking a silence agreement if this guy was to get set free for someone I knew deserted.
