Re: Atheist Teen Forces School to Remove Prayer from Wall After 49 Years

the hypocrisy in this thread is rather amusing

why are there so many people posting angry hypocritical posts about how she should have just ignored it? why don't all these people take their own advise and ignore this story if they dont like it.

In a lot of these people's own words "it's not like it affects you, just ignore it"
Just like she should have done...IGNORE it

And why post it in a public forum inviting comments if you want those in disagreement to keep our mouths shut

And there is NOTHING hypocritical about stating one person shouldn't win a cause over hundreds.

Re: Atheist Teen Forces School to Remove Prayer from Wall After 49 Years

AK47- you're kind of right, in the sense that most of the problems come from the people practicing religion and not the religion itself. I also commend you for being the type of christian that doesn't force their beliefs on others.

However, I will never agree to disagree. If someone wants to believe in a higher power, then good for them. But if you call yourself a christian, and you claim to live by the word of the bible, you're either stupid, ignorant, evil, a hypocrite, or perhaps all of the above. The bible advocates slavery, segregation of all kinds, murder, etc, etc, etc. All sorts of bad and evil things. The majority of christians only preach and (sometimes) practice the nice sounding parts of that fairy tale of a book. You can't have it both ways.
A lot of the Bible's 'bad bits' were events and long outlawed practices not practiced now.

Slavery has always gone on in all cultures and the slavery THEN is NOT practiced now.

People give me dirty looks when I don't say "Merry Christmas" back.
I'm not christian, why would I celebrate your (stolen) holiday?

Re: Atheist Teen Forces School to Remove Prayer from Wall After 49 Years

“Our Heavenly Father,” the prayer begins, “grant us each day the desire to do our best, to grow mentally and morally as well as physically, to be kind and helpful.” It goes on for a few more lines before concluding with “Amen.”

That is not offensive

That's exactly what I'm saying.

I'm all for religious freedom, and I have no issue with people saying Merry Christmas on TV or what have you, but I won't say it back.

I don't celebrate any holidays, or even my birthday.
I don't need a reason to celebrate, if I want to celebrate, I do so.

Aw! Why not your birthday? I get why though, what's great about getting old! I don't bother much with mine anymore. My 18th and 21st were the ones worth celebrating

Re: Atheist Teen Forces School to Remove Prayer from Wall After 49 Years

Why celebrate surviving a year?
Hooray, I succeeded in not starving/freezing/dehydrating myself to death!

If I get cancer, or some other terminal disease, I'll start celebrating my birthday.

I could give two shits about getting older.
The only thing that'll change is that if I still don't have kids at 40, I'm getting a vasectomy.

Re: Atheist Teen Forces School to Remove Prayer from Wall After 49 Years

Despite all the tooing and froing over this article, the girl is lucky to live in a country where we can vocalise matters. We stayed in Egypt for a month and the tourist police told me to remove my cross or I could get shot. That scared me to death! You go there, you have to dress modestly, not drink outside your hotel, not show your gay, it's very intimidating. A lady got slapped by a burqa cladded woman for wearing shorts. A boy ran up and squeezed my tit yet the tourist police did nothing. My male mate chased him and kicked his arse. Kid then ran up and spat at us. Little bastard. WHY?? Really spoiled our trip to Cairo. Awful place. Lecherous and very rude.
