Cat Attacks Toddler, Parents Call 911

Associated Press

PORTLAND, Oregon (AP) - March 11, 2014 (WPVI) -- Oregon owners of a 22 pound housecat who trapped them in their bedroom after attacking their baby say they're not giving up on their pet and are getting it medical attention and therapy.

Two days after police arrived to subdue the 4 year old part-Himalayan cat, owner Lee Palmer, of Portland, says he's taking the feline to a veterinarian. A pet psychologist also is due at the house to see the cat, named Lux.

Palmer says the animal attacked after the 7 month old child pulled its tail. The baby wasn't injured.

On the 911 call, the cat can be heard screeching in the background as Palmer says in a panicked voice: "He's charging us. He's at our bedroom door." Palmer also tells the dispatcher the cat has a, "history of violence."

Officers used a dog snare to capture the cat, and placed it in a crate.

With a baby in the house? Really? It'd be outta there! My brother had a dog and the babies would step on his balls and he didn't give a shit. He'd wake him and my sister-in-law up, if the baby woke up before them. My first thought would be the supposed taxidermist in the bobcat story.

I didn't realize this story was already posted.

thank you for adding to it!! I appreciate it

Re: 22 Pound Cat with a "history of Violence"

Sounds like it's semi-feral. A cat that isn't fed regularly or socialized properly can revert back to the state of a feral cat. Needs a vet or animal expert to assess whether the cat is too far gone to be re-socialized or if it has to be put to sleep. It isn't the cat's fault, but if it's too aggressive it may be too high risk to keep it alive.Like to get it away from its asshole owners & give it a fair chance tho.

Re: 22 Pound Cat with a "history of Violence"

Even the calmest, most well-mannered cat would loose its patience if you start kicking it in the ass, my cat is very calm but one day he scratched my cuisin's face for good, as she pulled his tail. She won't do that anymore for sure. The man said that he kicked it "in the rear" because it attacked the baby, but WHAT did the baby did to the cat? A cat WON'T attack you for no reason, even the craziest cat will mind its own business IF you leave it alone. That poor cat is in the WRONG hands, that's all there is to it.
You're stupid? Blame the cat. You're retarded? Blame the cat. Aww poor gato, it's always guilty
That couple should be locked into a cage with some tigers, to learn some good manners.

Couple Attacked By Cat Will Get Help For Pet
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — The Oregon owners of a 22-pound housecat that trapped them in their bedroom after attacking their baby say they're not giving up on their pet and are getting it medical attention and therapy.

Two days after police arrived to subdue the 4-year-old part-Himalayan cat, owner Lee Palmer of Portland said he's taking the feline to a veterinarian. A pet psychologist also is due at the house to see the cat, named Lux.

"We're not getting rid of him right now," Palmer said. "He's been part of our family for a long time."

Palmer says the animal attacked his 7-month-old child after the baby pulled its tail. The child suffered a few scratches on the forehead.

On the 911 call, Palmer tells the dispatcher he kicked the cat "in the rear" to protect his child. Palmer says the animal then "just went off over the edge" — leading Palmer and his girlfriend to barricade themselves, their baby and the family dog in the bedroom for safety.

The cat can be heard screeching in the background of the call as Palmer says in a panicked voice: "He's charging us. He's at our bedroom door." Palmer also tells the dispatcher the cat has been violent in the past.

Officers used a dog snare to capture the animal, and placed it in a crate.

The cat attack story gained national attention after police put out a news release about it Monday. Palmer says the family has had proposals from people wanting to adopt Lux, but the family is not taking them up on it.

No problemo.

Just one big, happy, dysfunctional family, for the most part

Re: 22 Pound Cat with a "history of Violence"

Even if the baby pulled the cats tail, if a cat hurts a baby the cat needs to go elsewhere. A baby doesn't know any better and the cat doesn't either, so the cat needs to go to a home with no children that may get rough or pull its little cat tail.
