I like the thinking except often they are in dead zones but more importantly hijackers would use that info to threaten to kill a passenger unless the tower opened the door.
Then they must adopt no deal rules with highjackers...Go ahead and kill a passenger(s) we will not allow you flight deck access.

That's what they have in most European/us prisons. If your a visitor or working there and you are taken hostage you are told in advance they will not negotiate for your release

I'd like to hear FNAL's take on this.

HUGE difference between flying a single engine piston aircraft and a state of the art airliner...Chalk and cheese.

Of course. I'm just curious what he'll say about this.

Re: 150 dead when Germanwings Flight 4U9525 Crashes into French Alps

Okay, let's delve deeper into this guy's psyche? If he was in such a depressed state that he was (obviously) suicidal, and possible delusional, he might have been "saving" those people from the evils of the world and taking them or sending them to heaven.

It's a possibility. I think that has been the case in some of the infanticide cases. Maybe this is like that on a large scale. Just trying to make sense of it, not that there is any.

I cannot watch anymore news on this, it's just too overwhelmingly sad.

As far as the technical side of it-- all I have to add is that there should absolutely be three flight officers on every aircraft, even on a computerized or whatever this is plane. I'm old-school. Shit happens. Health issues happen. And there should be backups for backups. Mechanical switches for electronic locks that only the flight deck crew know about or something. That's how my aircraft were. Then again, mine were old, built in the sixties when that was a necessity. Maybe old is better in this case. (Mine as in the ones I worked on, not flew.)

Edit: And while not in the US anymore, they are still flying, with hardly any mishaps. .
You ever go to Lockheed Aermod?

Lotta USN P3's are serviced there

Re: 150 dead when Germanwings Flight 4U9525 Crashes into French Alps

What they do need is a way the flight deck crew can contact ground who can unlock the door via a radio signal to the locking mechanism...Maybe certain security words so the ground know that the flight officer can prove who he is and that he hasn't a gun or some such pointed at his head.
How about" open the fucking door, we're about to crash"?

Easy to remember in an emergency

No I haven't. Most of ours got reworked at NARF, NAS Jacksonville FL and one went to Waco, TX for something. One went to the NARF, NAS Alameda.

Re: 150 dead when Germanwings Flight 4U9525 Crashes into French Alps

I hope this is not repeating what has already been said.

His ex girlfriend supposedly broke up with him the day before this flight.

Also, supposedly, she claims he "wanted to do something that history would remember him by." (Not sure exactly when he made that statement)

He also had reoccurring nightmares about his plane going down.

There was more, I need to research it later, when I have more time.

It sucks how someone can be having a "bad life" or a "bad day" and do something this selfish.
