A driver of a Toyota Vellfire MPV has been arrested after he is believed to have hit a motorcyclist, injuring him in a viral incident that occurred in Taman Johor Jaya here, on Wednesday evening. Seri Alam District Deputy Police Chief, Superintendent Vikra Mathitthan said, acting on information, the 18-year-old local man was arrested at 9.40pm on Thursday. "Initial investigations found that the incident occurred when the motorcyclist was said to have blocked the path of an MPV. The MPV driver was found to have honked his horn, which led to a disagreement and a fight between the two individuals. The MPV driver was also found to have hit the motorcyclist, causing injuries to him and damage to the vehicle involved," he said in a statement on Friday. He said the motorcyclist is currently being treated at the Johor Bahru Sultan Ismail Hospital (HSI) Ward for minor injuries to several parts of the body and bleeding on the head. He explained that the victim was reported to be in stable condition and his wife, who was a pillion rider, also suffered minor injuries after being dragged in the incident. He added that the suspect has now been remanded for seven days starting Friday to assist in investigations under Sections 307, 506, 160 and 182 of the Penal Code and Section 42 of the Road Transport Act 1987. "The results of the check found that the suspect has no past criminal record and the urine test was found to be negative for drugs. The investigation was also conducted by the Seri Alam IPD Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division because the suspect was found to be driving recklessly and making a false police report regarding the incident," he said. Before that, a video shared on social media went viral showing the driver of a black Toyota Vellfire MPV crashing into a motorcyclist. In the recording, a woman was also seen trying to stop the driver. However, the vehicle lost control before falling into a ditch. |
