On May 5, 2025, Chicago police responded to a call of a person with a knife inside an assisted living facility near 1400 E. 75th Street.

After officers entered the building, they encountered an individual armed with a knife inside their apartment. Officers attempted to de-escalate the situation and then deployed their tasers toward the individual.

The individual continued to disregard verbal commands and rushed toward an officer while swinging the knife. Two officers fired, striking the individual multiple times.

The individual was pronounced deceased on scene. The officers were not injured, and a knife was recovered on scene.
