Aaron Ramsey, 22, beat and stabbed his 73-year-old father to death inside the family's home in Wilton, Connecticut, on the afternoon of May 3, 2012, telling police afterward that voices had commanded him to do it, according to court records and police.

Edward Ramsey was found dead of blunt force injuries at the house on Signal Hill Road. His wife, Suanne Ramsey, discovered the body and called 911. In the recording, later released by police, she tells the dispatcher, "Someone was murdered," and, "My husband is in a pool of blood." Asked about her son, she says, "I don't see my son. He's gone."

Aaron Ramsey was already in custody by the time officers reached the house, according to police. Residents on nearby Cheese Spring Road had reported a bloodied man trying to break into a vehicle and then turning up at a home asking for medical help. He was taken to Norwalk Hospital.

At the hospital, Ramsey told investigators he had heard voices telling him to kill his father, police said. In his account, the voices warned that the elder Ramsey could heal himself, so he took a knife from the kitchen and stabbed him as he lay bleeding. Ramsey had a history of mental illness dating to age 19, according to court testimony.

He was charged with murder, attempted first-degree larceny and third-degree burglary and held on $1 million bond. His mother posted his bail that September, according to news reports at the time.

In December 2012, a three-judge panel found Ramsey not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect. Judge Richard Comerford ruled that the state had proven Ramsey caused his father's death but that he had acted while in an acute psychotic condition, driven by command hallucinations and delusional thinking. In March 2013 the court committed him for 50 years under the state Psychiatric Security Review Board at the Whiting Forensic Division of Connecticut Valley Hospital in Middletown, the state's maximum-security hospital for patients found not guilty by reason of insanity.

Ramsey remains confined there. In April 2025 the review board unanimously denied his request to begin spending nights at a staffed group home in New Haven, an expansion of his supervised leave, even after testimony that he had responded well to treatment, had shown no episodes of psychosis and was taking college classes.
