East Brunswick Officer's Vehicle Struck Pedestrian on Route 18
A 911 call and police radio traffic covered a response to a reported motor vehicle accident in the southbound lanes of State Route 18 in East Brunswick on August 1, 2021. At about 3:35 a.m., Officer Mitchell Ngai of the East Brunswick Police Department was on duty, in uniform, and driving a marked patrol vehicle northbound near the reported crash. In front of 260 State Route 18, the vehicle struck Julius Filep, 55, of Edison, who was walking in the roadway. Medical aid was rendered to Filep. He was taken by ambulance to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased at 4:13 a.m. Watch the video of this incident here.
