On August 7, 2021, Chicago police were involved in an officer-involved shooting near 6300 S. Bell Avenue.

During a traffic stop, a man discharged a firearm at three Chicago police officers, killing one officer and critically injuring another.

A third officer returned fire and struck the man as he fled on foot. Chicago police later apprehended the man and the other two occupants of the stopped vehicle.

The man was treated for gunshot wounds to the chest and left tricep. The officer's use of deadly force was objectively reasonable, necessary, and proportional under the circumstances, and complied with Chicago police policy.
