Scientist have shown that lightning actually comes UP from the earth, and not DOWN from the clouds. I wonder what's in the area of the pavement? Maybe a manhole cover or some heavy grating? I bet the trees are all dead now.

That's a certain type of lightning. I've actually seen it with my own eyes. Only once, luckily, in the middle of a red hot day. Not even any clouds or anything.

the closest I've been to a lightning strike was about 20 meters struck an aerial on a low roof. I just happened to be looking in that direction. it appeared as flat white line
