One Killed when Bus Rear-ends a Tractor-trolley in Middle of Highway
A 22-year-old driver of a tractor-trolley was killed and seven others, including three bus passengers, were injured when a speeding NMRC city bus rammed a stationary tractor parked by the roadside by workers repairing a stretch on the Noida expressway on Saturday afternoon. The tractor driver, Rahul, died on the spot while three other workers, Sonu (24), Vipul (23), and Raju (25) were injured. Bus driver Satish Chandra (46) was also seriously injured. He has been admitted to Jaypee Hospital. Three bus passengers, Rahbar (20), Arjun Singh (22) and Yogesh Singh Chauhan (23) escaped with minor injuries. According to police, the tractor was parked along the divider at Sector 135 and the four workers were busy filling the potholes with road-patching material. The driver of the bus dozed off and rammed the stationary tractor. This is the first major accident involving an NMRC city bus ever since the service was launched in December. The air-conditioned bus, with nearly 40 passengers, had left Pari Chowk and was on its way to Botanical Garden in the afternoon. Yogesh Singh Chauhan, a passenger who narrowly escaped, said he was sitting just behind the driver. "The bus driver suddenly dozed off and lost control of the vehicle. The bus rammed the stationary tractor and passengers were offseated due to the collision. The driver received critical injuries while passengers escaped with minor injuries," said Vineet Chauhan, Yogesh's cousin. Chauhan, a resident of Pune, had come to a relative's place in Surajpur. He was on the way for a job interview when the accident took place. An official of Jaypee Hospital said that the bus driver received injuries to the head, chest and legs. Sandeep Raizada, officer on special duty (OSD), NMRC, told TOI that he visited the spot after getting information. "We found that the workers were repairing the road without any reflectors on the e-way. Satish Chandra, SHO, Expressway police station, said that contractor Chandrapal had registered a case of rash driving, causing grievous hurt and death due to negligence under Sections 279, 338 and 304 (A) of IPC against the bus driver. The Authority official said that they will release some compensation to the kin of deceased. |

I see 3 workers. The one gets the tractor rammed right on him...thats who I thought was dead. But they are saying there were 4 workers..the dead one is the driver of the tractor...where is he in the video? Or is the driver of the tractor the one who jumped off of the tractor...?

I like how the report says the bus was air-conditioned, as if a) it is so rare to have an air-conditioned bus where they are, and b) it was important to the incident. |

Doing roadwork in the middle of a busy highway with no cones, flares, or barriers? And then standing in front of the work vehicle, the perfect place to be to get killed? None of this was intelligently done. |

What do they fill potholes with over there..... dead bodies! Looked like the guy on the tractor had one of those hi tech warning systems to warn traffic behind him.... the red flag waving warning system.... good thing the family of the dead get compensation of some sort as the death was clearly unavoidable! |
