Indian Actor Hit and Run on Motorcyclist

Senior Malayalam actor Maniyanpilla Raju has addressed his involvement in a hit-and-run incident that left two young men injured on Thursday night in Kerala’s capital.

The police registered a case after a car linked to the actor allegedly collided with a Royal Enfield motorcycle in front of the Trivandrum Club, prompting questions over why he initially left the scene.

The accident, which occurred around 9:30 pm on February 5, involved Sooraj (20) and Nidev (20), both residents of Thiruvananthapuram.

Police stated that the car, registered under number KL 01 CJ 0004, was being driven in a rash and negligent manner when it struck the motorcycle.

Authorities added that the driver did not stop to provide assistance or inform the police immediately after the collision.

Speaking to reporters after appearing at the police station on Friday, the 70-year-old actor explained his actions.

“I panicked after the accident and returned home. I was driving the car slowly to cross the road when the motorcycle hit the vehicle.

I heard a noise and saw someone falling down. After leaving the place, I contacted a person and asked him to arrange an ambulance.

I am a cancer survivor and have now been diagnosed with chikungunya. Also, my wife was alone at home," Raju said.

The injured youths were admitted to a private hospital, with Sooraj sustaining fractures to his left leg and shoulder, while Nidev suffered injuries to his head and legs.

The police have confirmed that both are receiving treatment and are in stable condition.

The FIR has been filed under Sections 281 (rash or negligent driving endangering human life) and 125(a) (endangering the life or personal safety of others) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with Sections 134(A) and 134(B) of the Motor Vehicles Act.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances of the accident and the driver’s responsibility.
