Re: Young Man Dies While Testing Homemade Helicopter

It looks like his injury was from his head hitting the front windscreen pillar. A helmet could have saved his life.
Actually after playing it back a few times.. the rear prop snapped off and flew into the top blade causing the initial shift of the helicopter which moved him just enough outside of the cabin for the top blade to chop him right on the side of the head.. only reason it didn’t chop straight through is cause the blade hit the cabin frame at the same time. Horrific chain reaction from the rear prop.

Re: Young Man Dies While Testing Homemade Helicopter

Looked like a death from final destination. Just needing the slow cinematic lead up lol.

Re: Young Man Dies While Testing Homemade Helicopter

Slow it down, his head came into direct contact with the upper blades as they broke. You can see him come fully out of the right side of the helicopter and his head goes above the roof as the blade slants downward, the force knocks him back into the helicopter and as it stops he spills out the opposite side. Literally any kind of seat restraints would have prevented his death, no helmet needed.
Yep.

No helmet, most importantly here, no harness

Re: Young Man Dies While Testing Homemade Helicopter

I guess shining a torch on your friend and staring at his dead body while chatting to your mates is ONE way to help...

Re: Young Man Dies While Testing Homemade Helicopter

The one thing he should have spent money on was a properly made tail prop. Was he still conscious at first and trying to climb out.

Re: Young Man Dies While Testing Homemade Helicopter

Here's a slo-mo of the incident
Nice job!

My initial guess was right. The tail rotors shed and the gear box went up into the main rotor, deflecting it downward. The main rotor hitting the cockpit is what cause the airframe to rotate.

I don't think a helmet would have made any difference. MAYBE 5 point harness, but who knows.
