On the upside though, free burial.

Re: Worker Buried Alive During Sewage Pipe Replacement

This is called Shoring and it's completely required in most countries. Its also the second most common cause of death on construction sites. Traumatic asphyxiation and entombed.

Well, no real point in wasting time on the dead and buried, now, is there?

Re: Worker Buried Alive During Sewage Pipe Replacement

Holy shit.
At least here in the states, OSHA requires a trench box for excavations at 5 feet. This looks triple that.

I'm willing to bet that poor bastard just started working that week and was afraid to speak up. He probably had a family to provide for and really needed that job. No one else was foolish enough to be in a trench that deep. That's pretty fucked up right there.

Re: Worker Buried Alive During Sewage Pipe Replacement

Holy fuck. This is simple shit. In Canada, and im assuming in America too, if you go more than 4' deep, you are supposed to dig the walls on a 45° slope to prevent cave ins. Often the walls cave in and self-45° before you could ever get that deep anyhow.
Right, but at least here in Texas we basically do a stair stepping trench design. If that’s not feasible we use trench protection with is two steal walls on each side braces by a steal beam in between.

Canada and the US have very heavy governmental
regulations. This country has more of a libertarian Bent. I always get sad when a man who’s just trying to do a days work to support his family gets killed. I wonder why only one guy went down there to try to save him?
